Like a Shepherd to His Sheep

Here is a song I wrote last summer. I thought you might enjoy it. Last year I decided I would write one song each month. It went OK, though I have revised some of the songs since then. This was one of the ones I thought turned out good.

The story behind the writing of it is this is kind of interesting. I was sitting down trying to figure out what to write about for that month. Nothing I tried seemed to work. I sat back and thought, "What do I know about?". Then I realized that since I was a shepherd I ought to be able to be able to write a song based on the 23 Psalm. This is what I came up with. I hope you like it.

Please excuse the sound quality, as I did with very basic recording equipment (ie. microphone and computer).

What did you think. The bass part is a little off because I am just a beginner, and I figured out the bass part right as I sat down to record. Another thing about it is that it is an Acoustic-Electric bass guitar and doesn't put out much volume. If I had a cable that could plug into the computer I could play it like that, but I don't have one and therefore had to play it acoustic. So if it sounds kind of pushed, it is because I had to play the strings hard. Plus my voice isn't great, but hopefully it doesn't sound as miserable to you as it does to me!

The little riff/turnaround that I use on the guitar during the into and between verses kind of came by default. When I was writing the song I took a break (no pun intended) and was playing around on the guitar and I stumbled upon that little riff on the bass strings. I said, "Hey, that would fit this song perfectly!" What a coincidence. I did an overdub for the second "break" in the song where the riff was higher sounding. I guess a lot of you may not understand all this mumble jumble about riffs, and breaks, and turnarounds, so I guess I'd better stop.
